E-Mail,  Microsoft  Verification E-Mail, 14/04/2009
Hi, I have received this in my hotmail inbox, webmail. I have not opened it as i am unsure of it's authenticity as i have not recently done anything with microsoft requiring verification although i am using the beta windows 7, 7000. I re-installed on a new mainboard/build on the 11th April but would not expect an email for that. Where can i check if this is legitimate before opening it? nick

Assuming you have turned off the showing of external links to images in the Hotmail options, you can open any e-mail in the web interface without damage. One way to look at the contents is to save the .eml file to the desk and open it in Notepad. The links should Only be pointing to ...microsoft.com web sites. You message is probably one of the 'phishing' spams sent regularly to any published email address. You have a phishing filter you can turn on in your browser Tools menu.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP

If you consider it potentially harmful, send it to secure@microsoft.com so that they can investigate.

Hi Mark and Susan, Thankyou for your replies. I had not realised that i was safe to look at e-mails on the web interface with the 'links and images' set so that i have to authorise the action. On opening the e-mail it did have microsoft links and so i clicked to verify and it was a further key for the 32bit windows 7 ? I have not installed the 32bit one as yet as i have been happy with the 64bit one so perhaps it is a little nudge. I have added the secure e-mail to my contacts for future reference but i think i get a quiet life compared to most. Cheers nick
